In 2014, the State of Utah has seen a transition in their Economic Development Office. ?Spence Eccles the former director has left to pursue investments in the private sector. ?Governor Herbert put Val Hale in as the new director. ?I have met him and he is active, vibrant and a doer. ?We welcome Val and his efforts to bring more jobs to the State of Utah. ? First Wind, who built the large wind farm up near Milford, Utah, is now embarking on building a seven new solar farms in our area.
The Seven Sisters portfolio includes seven separate solar photovoltaic projects, four of which are to be sited in Beaver County and three to be located in Iron County, Utah. With the start of major construction slated to begin in late 2014 and a target completion date of July 2015, the projects will use more than 73,000, 300-watt solar panels. Six of the seven projects will be 3 MW (AC), and the seventh will be 2 MW (AC). Once complete, the combined generating capacity of all seven projects will be 40,000 megawatt-hours per year, or equivalent to the electricity use of more than 4,000 Utah homes per year.
GAF, North America’s largest manufacturer of commercial and residential roofing, is opening a facility in Cedar City, Utah. From the Cedar City plant, GAF will be able to serve the Western United states with their roofing products. GAF purchased a 500,000 SF facility on 78 acres and is currently hiring their initial employees.
The 78-acre site chosen in Cedar City, Utah, located between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, includes an existing building with more than half a million square feet of space. Work to upgrade the building and install production lines and supporting equipment starts this quarter….
Cedar City’s SyberJet broke ground on their brand new 33,000 SF delivery and training center. ? Morgan Freeman owns one of the SJ30’s jets and was on hand to help everyone celebrate this event. ?
